V3 Onion Infrastructure Goes Live — Network Stability Report

V3 Tor onion network infrastructure launch terminal

The migration to V3 .onion addresses represents the most significant infrastructure upgrade in the platform's history. V3 onion addresses use Ed25519 public keys as their basis, producing 56-character addresses that are cryptographically stronger and fundamentally resistant to the brute-force enumeration attacks that affected V2 (.onion) addresses.

V2 addresses were deprecated by the Tor Project in October 2021, but many legacy market infrastructure components continued operating on V2 for compatibility. The completion of this migration ensures all platform connections benefit from the improved security model.

Technical Improvements

V3 onion services provide several concrete security improvements over V2: longer keys make enumeration computationally infeasible, improved HSDir protocol prevents directory enumeration attacks, and the authentication mechanism binds the address cryptographically to the server's key so that any man-in-the-middle would be immediately detectable.

All 124 network nodes have been updated and the transition was completed with zero downtime. Users should ensure they are using the updated address available on the verified links page.
